In the village, your guide will show you around. We will learn about the Hmong and Khmu people’s different roots and ways of life. We will visit the village hospital, school, knife maker, and corn processing plant. If you are lucky, you will meet the village shaman.

We will eat a traditional Hmong dinner prepared by our guide and Hmong host family. (You are welcome to join us in making dinner if you like.)

Day 2: We will wake up at 7:00 to see how Hmong people process rice into candy, have breakfast at 8:00 or 9:00 am. In the morning of the second day, we will experience a traditional ceremony of the Hmong people. We will sacrifice a chicken for the ceremony to pray for our good luck and receive a bracelet from the Hmong people at the ceremony. We will visit a nearby village hospital, school, knife maker, and corn processing plant. If you are lucky, you will meet the village shaman. (You can have opportunities to communicate with the children, such as introducing yourself to them and teaching them a little English. We recommend that you bring stationery that you can buy in Luang Prabang as a gift.) At 10:00 am, we will leave the village and walk  a couple hours to the Nam Pa River where we can take a refreshing swim before boarding our truck for an hour drive  to Manifa Elephant camp.

Check in to the Elephant Camp cottage, have lunch, enjoy elephant experience in the afternoon (Each person will have time to interact with one of the elephants and experience the traditional skills of a Laotian mahout.), then enjoy free time after dinner. Overnight in a private cottage with air conditioning and hot shower.

Day 3: We will get up and have breakfast. You can choose from the following activities (lunch included)
1). Cycling / Kayak to Pak Ou Caves / Mekong sunset cruise (to Luang Prabang)
2). Kayak to Pak Ou Caves / Visit Kuang Si Waterfalls in the afternoon
Transfer back to your hotel in Luang Prabang around 6:00-6:30 PM.

2 Days 1 Night

Day 1

Your tour guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Luang Prabang around 8:30-9:00 AM, then we drive to southeast of Luang Prabang about 30 min and arrive at Ban Huai Pheng Village. Starting from this village where Khmu and Hmong people live together, we will walk 3 km to Nong Kouay village, and in the afternoon we will walk 8-10 km from Nong Kouay village to Long Lao village. Hiking about 12 km on the first day. After arriving at the village, you will tour with your guide to see how the Hmong and Khmu people live together and settle into your homestay. Enjoy a dinner of local food. At night, you will be able to see the beautiful starry sky.

Day2

After breakfast We will leave the homestay house and head to Kuang Si Falls. We enter into jungle forests. Trekking across rice paddies, the orchards, farm land and forest, we will see the beauty scenery of Luang Prabang countryside on the way. As we continue to trekking, we reach the mountainous jungle and find natural springs which are source of Kuang Si Waterfall around 3-4 hours. Then we take a rest to enjoy lunch at waterfall. We explore the three layered Kuang Si waterfall walk the trails of the nature reserve and swim in the refreshing turquoise water pools and also visit the Bear Rescue Center. In the late afternoon we visit Kuang Si Butterfly park to see Laos’ myriad butterflies. From here we drive back to Luang Prabang and send back to your accommodation or city center between 5:30-6:00 PM.

3 Days 2 Nights

Day 1

Your tour guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Luang Prabang around 8:30-9:00 AM, then we drive to southeast of Luang Prabang about 30 min and arrive at Ban Phone Xay village or Ban Ber Hok (No 6 village). Starting from this village, we will walk 4-5 hours, 10 km to Nong Kouay village. The paths along the way are picturesque and magnificent. With a stop for a picnic lunch, we will spend the day in the jungle, crossing streams, walking through bamboo forests, and climbing steep hills. After arriving in the village you will settle into your host family’s home and cook dinner. You will spend the night under the beautiful starry sky, interacting with the people of the village.

Day2

We will walk 8-10 km from Nong Kouay village to Long Lao village. After arriving at the village, you will tour with your guide to see how the Hmong and Khmu people live together and settle into your homestay.

Day3

After breakfast We will leave the homestay house and head to Kuang Si Falls. We enter into jungle forests. Calculation formula: For the first person or solo traveler, the price is 175 euros (2 days), 254 euros (3 days). For each additional person, 55 euros (2 days) and 74 euros (3 days) will be added to the price for the first person. (2 days tour with 3 people 175+55X2=285 285÷3=€95)

If there are other participants in your group, the difference will be refunded to your card after the tour ends. 

If a party consist of a solo traveler and 2 other participants and these 3 people travel for 2 days together, the price per person is €95. The solo traveler can request a refund of €80 on the card you paid €175 to. (175-95=€80) The other two participants can also request a refund of 230-190 = 40 euros on the card they paid €230 to.

This tour does not run every day and is usually just for your group. Therefore, please do not book with the expectation of discounts from other participants.

(You can have opportunities to communicate with the children, such as introducing yourself to them and teaching them a little English. We recommend that you bring stationery that you can buy in Luang Prabang as a gift.) At 9:30, we will leave the village and walk 5 hours to the Kalong ong village, our homestay for the second day. The walking distance for this day is about 10 km.

On the evening of the second day, we will experience a traditional ceremony of the Hmong people. We will sacrifice a chicken for the ceremony to pray for our good luck and receive a bracelet from the Hmong people at the ceremony.

Day 3: We will get up early and have breakfast. Bid your farewells to your host family and leave the village for Phouno Vanh village. We enjoy a beautiful ascent as you crest a mountain before descending to the river. Take a swim in the Nam Xuang river and enjoy lunch on it’s banks before concluding this amazing tour. From there we will drive back to Luang Prabang.

On our second morning we’ll wake to enjoy breakfast prepared by your guide, say your farewells, and set off again trekking for about 5 hours to the second of two rivers you’ll see on this tour. Feel free to jump in for a swim to cool off before you depart by minivan to conclude this incredible immersion tour. We’ll arrive back in Luang Prabang by about 4:30 p.m.

Itinerary

8:30 a.m. meeting, introduction to group and guides, deposit your luggage in our care while on the tour, and briefing on tour before departure. Begin our drive of about 1.5 hours north of the city, half along a paved road and then along an unpaved road paralleling the beautiful Nam Xuang River. We’ll pass countless villages through rugged mountains on our drive as you leave everything resembling a city far behind you. We’ll cross the Nam Xuang river by small boat and begin our trekking through dense old-growth jungle. The first day of the tour is largely shaded as we make our way to our homestay villages.

On this tour we alternatively visit and homestay at two villages, one Khmu and the other Hmong to reduce the impact on either one in particular. We will take a thorough tour of one and then homestay at the other so that you can explore both ethnic groups in these remote villages. Our guides will cook for you, help translate if you would like to talk with anyone in the village, and will inform you about any aspect of local life.

On the second morning we’ll wake for breakfast, bid our new friends well, and begin trekking about 5 hours through more open terrain so that we can take in more countryside. Parts of this trail are down a medium grade. We’ll arrive at a the Nam Pa River where we can take a refreshing swim before boarding our truck for a 1 hour return trip to Luang Prabang by about 4:30 p.m. thus concluding this memorable remote tour.
