Itinerary

Go beyond the usual tourist path and discover the living ecosystem of Kuang Si. This journey isn’t just about the famous turquoise pools; it’s about understanding its source, its people, and the life it sustains.

Your adventure begins around 9:00-9:40 AM with a hotel pickup, followed by a relaxing Mekong River cruise—the perfect introduction to “slow travel” in Laos. Upon arrival, you’ll bypass the main crowds and embark on a special 45-minute trek along a secluded forest trail. This path leads you through the protected watershed, the very source of Kuang Si’s magic, where ancient trees stand guard over the springs.

This hidden trail brings you to a beautiful natural spring. Here, nestled by the water in a tranquil outdoor setting, you’ll find a small, open-air restaurant run by a local Khmu family—a place rarely seen by other visitors. Enjoy your lunch (choice of dishes) in this stunning natural plaza, knowing your meal directly supports the local community.

After lunch, you’ll have a flat, scenic 3-km forest trail and reach the top of the falls, and then descend to the main cascades. Enjoy 1 hour of free time to swim in the stunning turquoise pools, relax, or explore the jungle trails.

The journey continues as we follow the water’s path to the Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm. Witness how the falls’ water irrigates the terraced paddies and taste fresh, traditionally pressed sugarcane juice. You’ll see firsthand the vital connection between the forest, the water, and the local way of life.

Conclude your unforgettable day with a magnificent sunset cruise, returning to Luang Prabang around 6:30 PM. This gentle journey back on the Mekong perfectly captures the tranquil spirit of your adventure.

(For those on a tighter schedule, an optional return by minivan is available, arriving in Luang Prabang by 5:30 PM.)

This package includes a must visit to the scenic Kuang Si Falls and Buddha Cave on the outskirts of Luang Prabang, a Mekong River cruise, and an elephant ride in one day. The difference from the F17-1 and F17-2 tours is that the Mekong River cruise is shortened to only the highlights, but an elephant ride is included instead.

We will pick you up at your accommodation between 8:00 and 8:30 am. and depart for Manifa Elephant Camp. Along the way, stop at Ban Xang Hai (Whiskey Village), also known as Whiskey Village. Here, you can see the making process of Lao Lao, the country’s beloved rice whiskey, and maybe even enjoy an early morning tasting.

Then, continue to Manifa Elephant Camp for an elephant ride (using a two-seater chair) and feeding experience. After about an hour of experience, transfer by boat to Pak Ou Caves on the Mekong River. Along the way, you will witness breathtaking views of the tranquil countryside and mystical nature. After a 30-minute boat ride, you will arrive at Pak Ou, the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Ou Rivers. Pak Ou Caves are two connected caves filled with thousands of lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by devout pilgrims.

After approximately 40 minutes exploring the cave, the boat will enter the Ou River to see the spectacular limestone cliffs. Then a 30-minute boat ride down the Mekong River will take us to Manifa elephant camp for lunch. Enjoy a buffet lunch at the restaurant with a view of the Mekong River and free-roaming elephants.

This adventure destination package takes you to Kuang Si Waterfall. We will have 2 hours to explore the three-tiered waterfall, walk along a nature preserve trail, swim in refreshing turquoise puddles, and visit a bear conservation center.

On our way back into Luang Prabang, we will stop at Ban Na Uang (Hmong resettlement village). Here you can meet the Hmong people who originally lived in the highlands. After returning to Luang Prabang, drop-off points are the post office on the main street, near the night market, or at your accommodation (by prior arrangement or on request).
