Discover the world shared by elephants and their mahouts, with a private experience arranged around your preferred departure time.
Travel from Luang Prabang to Manifa Elephant Camp with your own vehicle and dedicated English-speaking guide. Beside the Mekong River, meet the people who care for the elephants and discover how their knowledge, daily routines, and relationships shape life at the camp.
Your elephant experience lasts approximately 1.5–2 hours, bringing together an introduction to elephant care, a forest ride, river bathing, and feeding. The activities are arranged exclusively for your group and guided by the camp’s mahouts.
Choose a departure time that suits your plans. If your visit includes lunchtime, enjoy a buffet lunch overlooking the Mekong. At other times, light refreshments are served after your elephant experience.
Your guide will meet you at your accommodation in Luang Prabang for your private transfer to Manifa Elephant Camp.
Since most of our general tourists arrive after 9:30, typically in the morning, an early departure (around 7:30 AM) and a late departure after the noon is especially rewarding for guests who would like to experience the quieter atmosphere of the camp. Your pickup time and meal arrangements will be confirmed when booking.
Begin with an introduction to the camp’s elephants and the mahouts who care for them. Your guide will explain the place of elephants in Lao life and culture, while the mahouts share insights from their daily work.
Observe a demonstration of routine health checks and learn what mahouts look for when examining an elephant’s eyes, ears, mouth, and feet. You may also learn how body measurements help estimate an elephant’s weight.
This introduction offers a closer understanding of the attention, practical knowledge, and familiarity involved in caring for each elephant.

Meet the elephant accompanying you and receive guidance on approaching, interacting with, and riding under the mahout’s supervision.
Set out into the forest, with one participant per elephant and an accompanying mahout. Experience the elephant’s strength and sure-footed movement through the wooded terrain, while gaining a different perspective on the landscape and the communication between elephant and mahout.

Continue towards the Mekong River for the bathing part of the experience. Under the mahouts’ guidance, join in as the elephants cool off and bathe.
River activities depend on water levels, weather, and the elephants’ condition on the day. Your guide and mahouts will explain how to participate and adapt the activity when needed.
Finish your elephant experience by offering the food provided by the camp. This is an opportunity to spend a little more time close to the elephants, ask questions, and learn about their individual habits and daily care.
Afterwards, freshen up using the private cottage provided for changing and showering.
For visits that include lunchtime: Enjoy a buffet lunch at your own table in the restaurant overlooking the Mekong River. Lunch may be served before or after the elephant activities, depending on your arrival time.
For visits outside lunchtime: Relax with light refreshments after your elephant experience.

When you are ready to leave after your meal or refreshments, your private vehicle will take you back to your accommodation in Luang Prabang.
The order and content of activities may be adjusted to suit the elephants’ needs, river and weather conditions, and guests’ abilities. Your transfers and elephant activities are private; other visitors may be present elsewhere at the camp.
