If you are looking for an experience that prohibits all elephant riding and limits the human–elephant relationship to observation alone, Manifa may not be the right place for you.0 CommentsComment on Facebook
Explore two rivers and the sacred Pak Ou Caves on a private kayaking journey, with a departure time and paddling route tailored to your group.
Paddle along the Nam Ou River beneath limestone cliffs, visit Pak Ou Caves, and continue down the Mekong to Manifa Elephant Camp. With your own English-speaking guide and private round-trip transfers, this half-day adventure combines riverside scenery, cultural discovery, and time to relax beside the Mekong.
The kayaking journey lasts approximately 2.5 hours, including a 30-minute visit to Pak Ou Caves. We can adjust the starting point to suit your experience, preferred paddling time, and desired level of activity.
Choose your preferred departure time from Luang Prabang. After kayaking, freshen up at Manifa Elephant Camp and enjoy a buffet lunch if your visit falls around lunchtime, or light refreshments at other times. Allow approximately 5–6 hours from hotel pickup to return, depending on your chosen route and pace.
Your guide will meet you at your accommodation in Luang Prabang for a private transfer to the kayaking starting point.
Before your visit, we will agree on a departure time and route that suit your plans and paddling experience. The starting point can be adjusted for a shorter, gentler outing or a longer paddle.
At the river, your guide will introduce the equipment, help you fit your life jacket, and explain paddling techniques and safety procedures.
Take time to get comfortable in your kayak before setting off along the Nam Ou River.

Follow the river through a landscape of limestone cliffs, wooded hills, and riverside villages. Along the standard route, enjoy views of the striking Pha Aen cliffs as you paddle towards the confluence of the Nam Ou and Mekong rivers.
Your private guide will set a pace suited to your group, with opportunities to pause and enjoy the scenery.

Leave your kayak and explore Pak Ou Caves, overlooking the Mekong near the meeting point of the two rivers. These sacred caves house thousands of Buddha images placed by generations of worshippers.
Visit the lower cave, Tham Ting, and, if you wish, climb the steps to the upper cave, Tham Theung. Your guide will introduce the site’s religious significance, with time to look around and take in the river views.
Return to your kayak and paddle downstream on the Mekong towards Manifa Elephant Camp. This section offers a different perspective on the landscape as the river broadens and forested banks stretch into the distance.
Your kayaking journey ends at the camp beside the river.
Use the camp’s shower and changing facilities, then settle in for a relaxed break overlooking the Mekong.
For visits that include lunchtime: Enjoy a buffet lunch at the camp’s riverside restaurant after kayaking.
For visits outside lunchtime: Enjoy light refreshments after your experience.
After your break, travel back to Luang Prabang in your private vehicle, with drop-off at your accommodation. The complete tour takes approximately 5–6 hours.
The starting point, paddling duration, and itinerary may be adjusted to suit your group’s abilities and the river and weather conditions. Changing the starting point allows us to adapt the route, while actual paddling difficulty also depends on conditions on the day.
