Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang is the pride and joy of all Laotians, It is the ancient capital of Laos and was named a UNESCO world Heritage Site in 1997. The city is a spiritual place for the Laotians: ghosts of its glorious past still haunts the National Museum, the former royal palace, and hundred of young monks still come to learn the teachings of the Buddha in its glittering temples. Tourism has been steadily increasing over the past 20 years, and infrastructures have developed. It now has some of the finest hotels and French restaurants in the world. But the serene and gentle atmosphere of Luang Prabang still remains typically Lao and preserves a unique heritage unlike anywhere in the world. On a tropical peninsula bordered by two rivers, the Mekong and the Khan, as it was 100 years ago, the sound of gongs calling monks to prayer echoes every morning in the townscape fused temples, French colonial villas and traditional Laos homes on stilts.
