Upon your arrival in Luang Prabang, your private local guide will welcome you in the airport then escort you to your hotel to check in. After a short rest at the hotel, we head out into the city center to visit Mount Phousi. 328-stem climb leads you through the temple complex to the top of the hill for a nice sunset panorama. Rest of the day at your leisure to relax and explore the city. You will have time to explore night market and have a dinner at your preferred restaurant in the city.
Pickup from your hotel at 8:30 am and the transfer to Ban Nong Heo, we will have some time to discover the charming Khmu village, with its traditional houses, its water buffalo and free-range ducks walking around, and even the farmers and master blacksmiths dealing with their daily tasks. Then, we will have the chance to join in an easy hike in the countryside, pass over hills, and through forests and plantations, with nice viewpoints to stop at along the way. You can refresh yourself with some fresh sugar cane that can be picked directly from the field to taste the juice. After a 2-hour walk in the beautiful natural environment, we will arrive at Ban Thapene, a village which sits at the foot of the stunning Kuang Si Waterfalls. Upon arrival, enjoy a lunch break at waterfall park. You will have time to enjoy magnificent waterfalls as well as bear rescue center. Stop at a Hmong village on the way back. Return to Luang Prabang from around 4-5 pm.
Today your tour begins early in the morning (around 05:45 in November to February). We pick you up from your hotel and you have a fantastic opportunity together with the locals to witness the captivating centuries old daily tradition of the alms giving ceremony. Following that, we visit local morning market.
Sai Bat (Morning Alms) is a longstanding tradition in Laos Buddhist culture. In observing it, the devoted offer food to monks throughout the Luang Prabang every morning. This tradition is very unique in Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving the procession.
The morning market lining a couple of quiet streets near the Royal Palace, starts early and is over by mid-morning. It sets up along a couple of side-streets next to one of the city’s many Wats. A butcher and some of the more touristy stalls have actual tables for their wares. But most of the vendors, selling anything from rice, to fresh vegetables, to steamed fish, frogs, and anything else that might be the day’s catch, just set up on the ground.
We will pick you up again at 9 am and take you to a small park on the peninsula tip. You will have a brief introduction to Luang Prabang, standing where the Nam Khan River meets the Mekong River. From there, walk to the famous Wat Xieng Thong temple. Next, we will go temple hopping around and followed by Heuan Chan Heritage house. There we will see a well preserved traditional Lao house and can take a short break in their gardens. Finally, we will visit the Royal Palace, which is today the national museum and built by French colonialists between 1904-09, displays a lovely collection of the artefacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture.
Lunch is at the Silk Road Cafe facing the Mekong River at Ock Pop Living Craft Center. You will also have time to see Laotian handicrafts at the center. We will transfer you to Luang Prabang airport for your departure. (End of service)
