Your own private journey to Kuang Si Waterfalls, ending with a sunset cruise on the Mekong.

Enjoy Kuang Si Waterfalls at your own pace, with a private minivan, your own English-speaking guide, and a private boat for the return journey. Start around 1:00 PM for a relaxed afternoon outing, or leave earlier for more time to swim, explore, and enjoy the surroundings.

The itinerary can be tailored to your preferences within the day. Choose your departure time, decide whether to visit a Hmong village, and plan how long you would like to spend at the falls. The main timing consideration is the sunset cruise: we plan to leave the waterfall park around 4:00–4:30 PM so that you can visit Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm before cruising back to Luang Prabang, arriving around 6:00–6:30 PM.

Itinerary

Your Preferred Departure Time — Hotel Pickup

Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Luang Prabang, and you will travel to Kuang Si Waterfalls in your private minivan. We suggest departing around 1:00 PM, but you can request an earlier departure in the booking form if you would like a longer day out.

The direct drive takes approximately 40 minutes. Your pickup time will be confirmed around your preferred activities and the time you would like to spend at each stop.

Optional Stop — Hmong Village & Museum

On the way, you may stop at Ban Na Uang, a Hmong village, to visit a small museum created by villagers. Discover aspects of Hmong history, traditions, and life in the highlands, with your guide providing context along the way.

Allow approximately 20 minutes for this visit, or continue directly to the falls if you prefer more time in the park.

Kuang Si Waterfalls — Time to Explore, Swim & Relax

Explore the forest paths, admire the cascading waterfalls and turquoise pools, and visit the Asiatic Black Bear Rescue Centre. You can swim in the designated swimming areas if conditions permit, take photographs, or simply enjoy the scenery.

We recommend approximately two hours at the waterfall park. If you would like to climb to the top of the falls, try the zip line, take a leisurely lunch break, or spend longer swimming and exploring, choose an earlier hotel departure so there is time to enjoy these activities without rushing.

Around 4:00–4:30 PM — Continue to Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm

Leave the waterfall park and continue to Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm, following the connection between the falls’ waters and the surrounding farmland.

See how water from the falls helps irrigate the terraced rice paddies, and enjoy fresh sugarcane juice pressed using a traditional method. This short visit offers a glimpse into the relationship between the forest, water, rice farming, and local life.

Your guide will coordinate the departure from the falls within this time window to allow for the farm visit and sunset cruise.

Mekong Sunset Cruise — Return by Private Boat

Board your private boat at Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm for the return journey to Luang Prabang. Settle in for an approximately 90-minute cruise along the Mekong, watching riverside scenery and village life unfold in the soft evening light.

After a day exploring at your own pace, enjoy a peaceful journey back as the sun sets over the river and surrounding hills.

Around 6:00–6:30 PM — Arrival in Luang Prabang

Arrive back in Luang Prabang and transfer to your hotel.
