Join the Kuang Si Heritage Rice Journey. Farm with local people, enjoy a traditional Lao lunch, follow historic irrigation canals, and swim in the turquoise pools of Kuang Si Falls. Complete your day with your choice of a minivan return to Luang Prabang or an optional Mekong sunset cruise.
Begin your full-day journey with hands-on rice farming at the Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm. Select seeds, learn a traditional saltwater method for choosing healthy grains, plow a paddy behind a water buffalo, and practice sowing, transplanting, or harvesting under the guidance of local farmers.
After threshing and winnowing, enjoy a farm-to-table lunch served in a traditional Lao house. Taste sticky rice you helped prepare, hear stories of water sharing and seasonal life, and experience hospitality that returns value directly to the community.
After lunch, climb aboard a farm tractor for a slow and scenic ride along irrigation canals fed by the waters of Kuang Si Falls. Along the way, pass rice fields, look out for water buffalo, and glimpse daily life as local farmers tend their crops.
Continue on foot, following the canals uphill toward the falls. Along this peaceful trek, discover the Muang Fai irrigation system, a centuries-old cooperative water-sharing practice that sustains villages and fields in the region.
Arrive at the top of Kuang Si Falls and enjoy around two hours of free time to explore the waterfall area. Follow forest trails, admire the cascading limestone tiers, and cool off in the designated swimming pools—one of the highlights of this beautiful natural setting.
Please select your preferred return option when booking.
After your visit to Kuang Si Falls, travel back to Luang Prabang by minivan. This option is ideal if you prefer an earlier return, with arrival at approximately 5:30 PM.
Extend your day with a leisurely sunset cruise on the Mekong River. After visiting the falls, transfer to the boat and cruise toward Luang Prabang as the sky turns golden and rose-colored. Watch fishermen, riverside villages, and water buffalo along the banks—a peaceful conclusion to a day exploring the connections between water, farming, and community.
