Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw: River Cruise, Hike & Waterfall (NK-1)
Enjoy a full-day tour from Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw, exploring the Nam Ou River. This route has long been a lifeline connecting communities, mountains, and rivers. Traveling by boat allows guests to experience these landscapes in a slower, more meaningful way than a simple road transfer.
Minimum number of participants: 2 people or more. Please contact us if your group does not meet the minimum number of participants.

Important information
- The tour departs from Luang Prabang and ends in Nong Khiaw, where you will need to arrange your own hotel accommodation for the day of the tour. After the tour date, plan your own itinerary in advance: you can join our tour from Nong Khiaw to Luang Prabang for returning to Luang Prabang, or you can arrange activities for your stay in Nong Khiaw or travel to other parts of Laos or Vietnam with our office in Nong Khiaw.
- This tour requires physical fitness to walk along country roads for about an hour.
- If you would like a vegetarian or vegan option for lunch, please be sure to let us know in the message box when booking.
Itinerary
Get picked up from your hotel in Luang Prabang between 8:30-9:00 AM. Travel by van to the second dam on the Nam Ou River, then board the boat to Nong Khiaw. As we go upstream, secluded and natural scenery surround us. Admire the beautiful Nam Ou River valley surrounded by limestone mountains. Enjoy a boxed “bento” style Lao lunch on board. In the afternoon, disembark for a village visit, followed by a short hike to 100 Waterfalls (only available from the rainy season until around December) or Tad Mok Waterfall (all other seasons). The boat ride will take you to Nong Khiaw just before dusk, where you’ll watch a beautiful sunset over the Nam Ou River. The tour ends at the river bank nearest to your Nong Khiaw hotel.

Luggage
You are allowed to bring a standard amount of luggage equivalent to airline checked baggage. Additionally, if you are returning to Luang Prabang, you are welcome to leave your luggage safely at our office during your stay in Nong Khiaw.
While you are away from the boat for the hike, the boat captain will remain on board to ensure your luggage is safe.
