Luang Prabang World Heritage & Kuang Si Waterfalls (F23)

This full-day tour combines a Luang Prabang city tour with an afternoon excursion to Kuang Si Waterfall. In Luang Prabang, you will visit various temples and royal palaces and learn about Lao history culture and local life. Walking with a local guide, you will hear stories about the history of the temples and the city, Buddhist stories and legends painted all over the walls of the temples, and more, giving you a taste of Luang Prabang’s culture. In the afternoon, we will head to Kuang Si Waterfall. There will be time to bathe in the emerald green waterfalls and visit a bear rescue center. On the way back, we will visit a Hmong village and have the opportunity to meet the ethnic minorities and get a glimpse of their culture.

Joint tour requires a minimum of 2 people, solo travelers should enquire the day before. We will only accept reservations if there is already a reservation for another group.

Early Morning — Alms-Giving & Morning Market

Your day begins with hotel pick-up between 5:15 and 6:00 AM, depending on the season. Accompanied by your guide, observe Sai Bat, the daily Buddhist alms-giving tradition, as local residents offer food to monks making their morning rounds. Your guide will explain the meaning of the practice and how to observe respectfully.

Afterward, explore the morning market, where residents shop for fresh vegetables, herbs, river fish, and other ingredients used in Lao cooking. This is an opportunity to discover local produce and gain a glimpse of everyday life beyond the town’s celebrated monuments.

Return to your hotel at approximately 7:30 AM for breakfast and a short break.

Around 8:30 AM — Royal Palace Museum

Meet your guide again and begin your exploration of the historic town at the Royal Palace Museum, the former residence of the Lao royal family. Combining traditional Lao and French architectural influences, the palace provides a window into the country’s royal past. As you explore its rooms and collections, your guide will introduce the people and events that shaped Luang Prabang and modern Laos.

Mount Phousi — Panoramic Views

Next, climb the stairway to the summit of Mount Phousi, the sacred hill at the heart of Luang Prabang. From the top, enjoy sweeping views across the town’s temple roofs, the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, and the surrounding mountains. The panorama reveals the distinctive setting of the old town between its two rivers.

Wat Phra Phutthabat — Buddhist Blessing

After descending, visit Wat Phra Phutthabat for a Buddhist blessing from a senior monk. The blessing includes a gentle sprinkling of holy water, followed by a traditional wrist-tying ritual in which cotton threads are tied around your wrists with wishes for protection, well-being, and good fortune.

Your guide will help you follow the customs of the temple and explain the significance of this personal encounter with Luang Prabang’s religious traditions.

Refreshment Break

Pause at a nearby local shop for a light snack and freshly prepared seasonal fruit juice before continuing through the old town.

Wat Xieng Thong — Luang Prabang’s Architectural Heritage

Visit Wat Xieng Thong, one of Laos’s most important historic temples and a celebrated example of Luang Prabang’s traditional architecture. Admire its elegant, low-sweeping roofs and richly decorated buildings while your guide explains the temple’s significance and the features that distinguish the local architectural style.

The Peninsula — Where Two Rivers Meet

Finish with a walk to the tip of the Luang Prabang peninsula, where the Nam Khan River meets the Mekong. Take in the riverside scenery and enjoy a peaceful conclusion to a morning exploring the town’s history, spiritual life, and landscape.

Kuang Si Waterfalls

After your morning city tour, enjoy free time for lunch before meeting your guide again at 1:00 PM to depart for Kuang Si Waterfalls.

Spend more than two hours exploring at your own pace. Admire the cascading falls and turquoise pools, follow shaded forest paths, swim in designated areas, and visit the Bear Rescue Center.

Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm

Continue to Kuang Si Heritage Rice Farm, where terraced rice fields offer a glimpse into Laos’s agricultural traditions. Learn how water flowing from the Kuang Si area supports the surrounding farmland, and enjoy freshly pressed sugarcane juice prepared using a traditional local method.

Mekong Sunset Cruise

After your visit, transfer to the Mekong riverbank and board a boat for a sunset cruise back to Luang Prabang. Relax as the evening light changes across the river and surrounding hills—a peaceful end to a day exploring the region’s cultural and natural heritage.

Arrive back in Luang Prabang at approximately 6:30 PM.

(For those on a tighter schedule, an optional return by minivan is available, arriving in Luang Prabang by 5:30 PM.)

If the minimum number of participants is not reached, the entire tour will be canceled (full refund) or only the morning city tour will be canceled (the difference from the €11 for the afternoon waterfall tour will be refunded).
